Opening for Cheryl Wheeler!
Mocha Maya’s/Dave Dersham CD/
The most exciting bit of news for us right now is that we’ll be opening up for Cheryl Wheeler on 9/11/11 at the Stephen Brewer Theater at Old Sturbridge Village. We met Cheryl a few months back when she played a members concert for WUMB at U-Mass Boston. We gave her our disc and picked up her latest CD, “Pointing at the Sun” (which is outstanding, needless to say! Follow the link to check it out.) and she surprised us by calling us up the next day. She’s been so kind and refreshingly sincere, it’s been a real lift for us, and we’re very excited to open for her!
Been enjoying some fun gigs lately. On Friday August 5th, we drove out to Shelburne Falls to join our good friend Dave Dersham for a show at Mocha Maya’s. We’d been hearing about this venue for a long time, so we were psyched to finally get down there and do a show. It didn’t disappoint - first rate staff an an attentive listening audience made for a great night; hope to go back there soon. We also recently joined our good friends Lisa Martin and Guy MIchael Grande for a songwriters-in-the-round performance at the Celebrate Ludlow festival. The music was great, and our son had about as much fun as he’s ever had going down the huge inflatable slide and seeing the snakes from the reptile exhibit! A great festival all around.
A bit more on Dave Dersham: Dave has been working on his new record for the last year or so, and he humbled me by asking me to produce it. We’ve been squeezing in recording sessions whenever we can, and over the months we’ve cobbled together something pretty special. The new album is called “Gilding the Lilies” and it has been mastered (the last step in the recording process) so I expect it will become available in the early fall. You can check out Dave’s music here.

Check out “Free Download of the Month” for the month of May
Fiske and Herrera are doing something new for the fans. Each month, a new unreleased song or live recording will be released for a limited time on their bandcamp site. For the first round this fine month of May, you can download a live performance of “Across the River”, recorded at the BUUC on the last night of F & H’s most recent tour.
The song was originally released on Fiske and Herrera’s second full-length album of the same name. That album has gone off the shelves indefinitely. The song tells the story of a father reluctantly handing the family business off to his son. The job is a little unusual - the father is a harvester of souls.
